THE TITLE RACE CLASH

Tomorrow marks the most pivotal moment in the title race so far this season!
League leaders Lliswerry and hosts Cwmbran Town have both enjoyed incredible campaigns, with just one league defeat between them.
Lliswerry’s sole loss came back in September against Newport rivals Pill, who currently sit in sixth place. Since then, the Lizards have embarked on an extraordinary 10-game winning streak, including a dominant 7-0 victory over fellow Newport side Caerleon and an 8-1 thrashing of Clydach Wasps, which has propelled them to the top of the table.
Cwmbran Town’s form has been even more impressive, with 12 consecutive wins since their 1-1 draw with Abertillery Excelsiors in early September — the only match in which they’ve dropped points this season.
Realistically, both teams are strong favorites for the two promotion spots at the top of the GPL. However, sides like Rogerstone, Monmouth Town, Pill, and New Inn will be ready to capitalize on any slip-ups, particularly following tomorrow’s crucial 1:30 pm clash at Cwmbran Stadium.
When it comes to goals, the numbers are staggering. Across their combined 40 matches this season, the two sides have netted a total of 180 goals — an average of 4.5 goals per game.
Remarkably, only one match involving either team has ended without them scoring: Lliswerry’s early-season draw with Newport Saints.
